The riddim is a key element of reggae. The word "riddim" is a contraction of the English "rhythm", which means rhythm in French. It is a musical concept closely linked to Jamaican culture, reggae and its derivatives such as dancehall or dub. A riddim is in fact, an instrumental base on which several artists can place their voice and thus create different songs with the same musical background. Focus on a Jamaican specificity.
